About Us

The home may admit a maximum of 83 residents who require Nursing and Residential care.
We also provide a service to those living with Dementia or dementia related conditions (including dementia nursing), also to those requiring end of life care and to physically disabled persons under the age of 65.

Some of the bedrooms at Blossom Lodge are en-suite. Although the rooms that don’t have them are within close proximity to a bathroom. The home offers several communal lounges with a TV and quiet lounges are also available. Each unit has a light airy dining area, where residents can enjoy their meals. The home provides a four-weekly menu. There are a variety of choices available and the experienced cooks are trained to deal with specialist diets, i.e., various textures and food intolerances. The home has two lifts that provide access to all three floors, enabling less able visitors easy access to their relatives and also allowing less able residents to take part in the activities and the shows that are on different units. The home has several outside areas for our residents/visitors and staff to enjoy. Our residents are encouraged to help in the gardens, with potting plants or watching others. We have several flower beds and ornamental areas.
Blossom Lodge is owned by GB Healthcare Ltd.
Blossom Lodge is a purpose-built home. The name was given as we have several trees situated in the grounds, which looks beautiful in spring when they are full of blossom. The home is situated close to the town centre and al the local amenities. The town centre offers a wide variety of shops, restaurants, cafes and bars. The Alhambra Centre is found in the town centre and a new indoor market has recently been built. There is a small screen cinema in Barnsley and also three theatres that provide several shows and events each year. We are close to the M1 motorway, which is a 15 minute drive to Meadowhall shopping centre and a 20 minute drive to Wakefield and 40 minutes to Leeds.
Although we will happily provide a bed, bedside table, desk and storage, you are welcome to bring your own furniture if you wish. We encourage all new residents to bring some personal effects with them to make a real “home from home”. You may even be able to bring your pet at the Manager’s discretion.
All rooms have a television point. Aids are available throughout the home to assist you and include shower facilities, baths with hoists, raised toilet seats and grab rails. Special mattresses are available where required. The home has an emergency nurse call system so help is never far away.
Our cooks provide a varied, well balanced range of “home cooked” meals but if you follow a special diet, we can cater for this.
We offer a complete laundry service with collections and deliveries made direct to your room every day.
Local GP’s and members of the District Nursing Team regularly attend the home. A chiropodist and an optician also come in as required. If you need to attend an outpatient appointment, we may ask your next of kin to go with you. If no one is available we may make a small charge to escort you.
We can offer hand and nail care, hairdressing and a wide range of activities to suit all tastes. National and local newspapers can be delivered on request, we have a selection of reading material, DVD’s and we organise regular trips out. A member of the clergy will also on occasions visit the home.
At Blossom Lodge we operate a key – worker system. This means you will have a key – worker who will;
• Give special attention to your needs
• Help with personal shopping
• Answer questions
• Get involved in the planning of your care
• Make sure your care plan is followed
• Make sure everyone who needs to know understands how you are and what you need
• Support you when your care plan is reviewed
But, every member of staff will do their best to make sure the care you receive is of the highest standard. You will be encouraged to say how the home should be run and to get involved in decision making. You and your family will be invited to come along to Residents & Relatives meetings regularly throughout the year. We know that only by listening to you we will continue to improve the service we provide.
Our residents all need different levels of care and support. We know how important it is to remain independent for as long as possible, to have the opportunity to remain active, physically and mentally and to enjoy a social life, either in or out of the home.
We will give you the care that’s right for you by:
• Making sure that your lifestyle at Blossom Lodge is, as far as possible one you would choose for yourself so that you’re social, cultural, religious and recreational needs are met.
• Making sure you have choice and control over your life and that you are involved as possible in all aspects of your daily life.
• Making sure you enjoy a choice of nutritionally balanced, appetising meals served in pleasant surrounding
