Overview
Greystone House was established in October 1988 by John and Sue Ruddick as a small family ran business providing care for only nine residents. John and Sue used their extensive experience and years of service within the nursing profession to create and manage the home. Over the years the business has expanded but remains family ran; it is our belief that this helps us to create the friendly welcoming environment that is found at Greystone House. Greystone House is now a registered residential care home for 24 adults with enduring mental health problems. In September 2003 John and Sue’s daughter Sian joined the family business in a managerial capacity following completion of her honours degree in psychology. Sadly, John passed away in 2020, but Sian and Sue, together with our registered manager Rebecca Purdham, remain committed to ensuring that the highest standards of care and accommodation continue to be provided for our residents. Rebecca has been with the home for 18 years and has a wealth of experience alongside various qualifications including a Level 5 QCF in Health and Social Care.
Greystone House is a large, detached house set within its own private gardens in a residential area of Carlisle just 2 miles from the city centre. The home is tastefully decorated to a very high standard and offers a warm welcoming environment in which to reside. Accommodation is spread over two floors and a lift is available for residents who have difficulties with the staircase, the home is also wheelchair accessible. There is a lounge, open plan lounge/ dining room, and separate dining rooms provide a relaxing area in which to enjoy our freshly prepared meals, both dining areas accommodate 14 people respectively. The bedrooms are well equipped and provide very comfortable accommodation, all bedrooms contain a wash hand basin and the majority are en-suite. Each bedroom is connected to our nurse-call system, this means that help is available when needed 24 hours a day. There are three bathrooms, one of which has a shower facility and another is equipped with a hoist for those who require it, as well as three separate toilets.
The home is ideally located on an excellent bus route which runs directly to the city centre. Residents have access to a full range of local facilities including two shops, post office, bakery, beauty salon, an in-house hairdresser, a public house, a church and ‘Hammonds Pond’ the local park. Our activities coordinator works hard to offer a programme of tailored activities to suit a broad range of our resident’s interests, new suggestions are always welcome!
