About Us
Welcome to Anchorstone Nursing Home, where our philosophy is simple yet profound: "Your Life, Your Way." Nestled in the heart of Farnham, we are a specialist dementia care home dedicated to providing a warm, homely, and secure environment where every resident is treated as a unique individual. We believe that moving into a care home should never mean losing your identity, your preferences, or your sense of purpose. Instead, we strive to create a place where you can continue to live life on your own terms, surrounded by compassion, respect, and understanding.
At Anchorstone, person-centred care is not just a phrase; it is the foundation of everything we do. We take the time to get to know you—your life story, your routines, your likes and dislikes—so that we can tailor your care to fit you perfectly. Whether it is choosing your favourite meal from our photo menus, deciding when you would like to wake up and start your day, or simply spending quiet time in our sensory garden, your choices matter. Our home is designed to offer you both freedom and security. You can explore our adapted spaces, enjoy the lively company of our parakeets and guinea pigs, or sit quietly at our "bus stop" seating area, watching the world go by. For those who wish to stay connected to nature, our sensory garden and bird aviary offer peaceful retreats, while our Wish Tree invites you to share your dreams—whether it is a seaside trip, a family reunion, or a simple pleasure—and watch them blossom.
We understand the importance of relationships and connections. Life at Anchorstone is enriched by the company of others, including our beloved animal companions. Elvis the cockatiel, our parakeets, and our friendly guinea pigs bring joy and comfort to residents and visitors alike. Reminiscence therapy is woven into daily life, using music, familiar smells, and tactile activities to spark memories and create meaningful moments. We also recognise that communication is deeply personal. That is why we adapt to your preferred way of connecting—whether through visual aids, large-print materials, whiteboards, or simply taking the time to listen.
Your safety and wellbeing are our priority, but we believe that safety should never come at the cost of independence. We work closely with GPs, district nurses, dementia specialists, and other healthcare professionals to strike the right balance between supporting your autonomy and managing risk. Our 4-Point Safety Checks ensure your wellbeing is monitored daily, incidents are reported transparently, families are involved in care planning, and our staff are trained to uphold your dignity and seek your consent at all times. You have the right to refuse care (we will simply revisit the conversation later), to request private time, and to access independent advocates whenever you wish.
Our team is the heart of Anchorstone. With 80% of our staff having been with us for over three years, we offer stability and continuity that is rare in care settings. You will see familiar faces every day, building trust and genuine relationships. Our nurses are available 24/7, and we never rely on agency staff, ensuring that the people caring for you know you well. Every team member holds a Care Certificate, and many have additional training in syringe driver use and dementia communication. Whether it is a nurse, a care assistant, or a member of the housekeeping team, everyone here is committed to making your life as comfortable and fulfilling as possible.
Finally, we see our residents' families as partners in care. We encourage you to bring familiar items from home to personalise your space, to join us for celebrations, and to visit at any time—there are no restrictions on visiting hours. We keep families informed through regular updates via your preferred method, whether that is a phone call, an email, or a face-to-face meeting. Together, we will review your care plan regularly, ensuring it evolves with your needs and continues to reflect who you are.
At Anchorstone Nursing Home, you are not just a resident; you are family. Welcome home.
