About Us

Specialising in residential care, The Gables is situated in a beautiful period building with a large spacious interior that feels homely and relaxing. The home is located directly opposite the North Sea on Gorleston promenade, with many of the bedrooms benefitting from en-suites and several with sea views. Additionally, there is a bus stop very close to the home, providing convenient transport links for residents and visitors.

The Gables has a warm and friendly atmosphere and is run by a team of staff who work hard to provide top-quality care. The Gables has been open since the 1940s and is well established within the area. Residents are encouraged to enjoy the promenade and ‘take in the sea air’ and the splendid views of the North Sea. Additionally, there is a bus stop very close to the home, making it easy for residents and visitors to access local amenities and transport links.

Inside The Gables are several large spacious rooms with a wealth of architectural detail. Large lounges and tastefully decorated bedrooms allow residents to relax in comfortable surroundings with their family and friends. The grounds are a stone’s throw from the beach and include a sheltered patio, flower beds, and a barbecue area.

Daily activities and entertainment are a core part of our quality care at The Gables. We offer a range of activities that are person centred and based on our residents’ individual needs. We encourage residents to continue pursuing their favourite hobbies and pastimes or to try out something new entirely.

Whether you are interested in ships, small boats or people, there is always something to watch at The Gables. We’re also passionate about keeping our homes and residents at the heart of the local community, working closely with community groups, schools and other community connections to keep residents involved in local activities.

Dining is an essential part of the care package we provide to our residents, not only from a general health and wellbeing perspective, but we believe residents should be able to enjoy eating what they want, when they want.

We pride ourselves on good traditional home cooking and we can cater for any diet. Our chef regularly chats with residents to help plan the menus and we keep a feedback book for residents to log their comments. We offer regular theme days mixed up with traditional foods so every resident can enjoy the things they like to eat.

Our catering team prides itself on producing food of the highest quality, using local suppliers to create fresh, homemade dishes each day.

The Gables and its gardens overlook the promenade at Gorleston, near the towns of Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft. Located right on the beach, visitors and residents can enjoy plenty of beach trips, and there is a lovely hotel opposite the home, which serves afternoon teas, as well as a theatre on the seafront.

Parking for The Gables is available in the surrounding streets, making it easy for visitors to access the home while enjoying the beautiful seafront setting. Gorleston is a small town, but there are several shops to explore, and it’s situated just three miles from Great Yarmouth with its long sandy beach. The seaside town is home to The Time and Tide Museum, which traces local history, The Nelson Museum, and the Sea Life Aquarium.

The health and wellness of our residents is very important and we work closely in partnership with local health and wellness professionals to ensure every resident is able to lead a full and enriched life. We welcome visiting professionals such as GPs, chiropodists, opticians and can arrange visits to other professionals if and when it may be required.

Arranged over four floors, some of our bedrooms have sea views and can be personalised to make them a real home-from-home. Residents can also enjoy our patio and gardens for relaxing, socialising and entertaining.

All our 34 bedrooms are tastefully decorated and provided ready-furnished with the essentials for instant comfort, and we happily encourage our residents to bring their own treasured furnishings and belongings if they would like to do so.

Amongst our range of well-equipped areas and facilities, there’s always space for quiet contemplation, or for enjoying the company of kindred spirits, and for relishing in interests and pursuits.
