About Us
Chiswell Residential is a small, homely and personal residential home, with a high level of care and experience in looking after individuals with complex needs, in the classic city of St Albans. It was opened in 1990 by Mr and Mrs Dewing, after Mrs Dewing's 25 years of experience as a nurse in London and Hertfordshire. Her vision and practise has always been to focus on the individual and their quality of life.
The uniquely small size of the home, having only six residents, means that they can have a close relationship with the carers - who are highly qualified, up to NVQ Level 3-5, and are in ongoing training. Each resident has a person-centered care plan. The home's ethos revolves around principles of respect, dignity and freedom, prizing the residents' happiness and ability to live as they would like - particularly helping them to engage with arts like music, drawing and reading. Whilst being in a quiet, residential area, the home has easy access to shops and the post office, and is ideally located near the M1 and M25.
