My name is Chipo Gondo, I am the Registered Manager of Houghton Care. I am a qualified nurse with over 20 years of clinical experience, specialising in the care and support of individuals with learning disabilities, mental health conditions, and enduring complex needs. Our organisation is currently registered as a domiciliary care provider, and Supported Living services under the Care Quality Commission (CQC) regulations.
Having worked extensively in both hospital settings and community mental health services, I have seen first-hand the urgent need for robust, therapeutic step-down services for individuals transitioning from inpatient care or who are struggling to access mainstream supported accommodation. Our vision at Houghton Care is to create a service that makes a real difference—particularly for individuals who may have been refused by other providers due to complex behaviours, forensic history, or dual diagnoses involving substance misuse and mental illness.
Our proposed supported living model will focus on:
· Therapeutic interventions including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Positive Behaviour Support (PBS), and crisis management strategies
· A trauma-informed, person-centred approach to recovery
· Integrated care pathways in partnership with clinical teams, local mental health services, and addiction support agencies
Our aim is to bridge the gap between clinical discharge and independent living, offering a secure and stabilising environment that fosters rehabilitation, safety, and long-term recovery.
We believe Houghton Care can play a pivotal role in reducing hospital readmissions, lowering community risks, and providing cost-effective care that aligns with the wider objectives of Integrated Care Systems (ICS). By working collaboratively with commissioners, mental health professionals, housing bodies, and recovery services, we can provide a comprehensive support model tailored to individuals with complex needs.
